Printrivo Image Studio
Prepare one image for print, from background cleanup and sizing to text, halftones, and a final PNG.
Open Image Studio1. Open your artwork
Click Open image or drop a PNG, JPG, or WebP onto the workspace. Use Zoom and Preview to inspect the image against transparency, white, or dark backgrounds. Edits run in your browser and leave the original file untouched.
2. Remove a background and trim
- Expand Background & trim → Remove background. Auto uses the image corners; choose a custom color if needed.
- Start with Connected to edges, adjust tolerance and edge softness, then click Apply background removal.
- Inspect fine details. Use Undo if too much was removed. All matching areas can also remove matching colors inside the artwork.
- Set trim padding and click Trim to Artwork. Use Exact pixel crop when you need specific pixel dimensions.
Background removal works best with solid-color backgrounds. It removes colors, so it does not automatically identify a subject in a complex photograph.
3. Set print dimensions
In Resize image & print, enter the print width or height in inches, choose Export DPI, and click Apply resize. Keep proportions enabled to avoid stretching. The tool offers 150, 300, and 600 DPI, plus 2×, 4×, and 300 DPI upscaling options.
Upscaling smooths enlargement but cannot recover missing detail. The maximum is 64 megapixels and 12,000 pixels per side. Large edits require more device memory.
4. Clean, color, and add finishing touches
- Clean artwork: open the group and choose the cleanup control that fits your image. Inspect the result before applying another edit.
- Colors: adjust brightness, contrast, and saturation or replace a matching color. Text colors remain independently editable.
- Halftone creator: start with a preset, choose dot shape and spacing, adjust tones, ink, and background, then apply the halftone. Check the dots at your intended print size.
- Text & layers: add text, adjust its font, size, color, and position. Drag text on the canvas or use the X/Y inputs.
- Effects: expand the group to apply an effect and inspect the result. Use Undo and Redo to compare changes.
Rotating or flipping flattens text into the image; Undo restores editable layers. Keep a downloaded copy of work you want to preserve before leaving the page.
5. Review and export
- Read the Print Check panel and review dimensions, transparency, and output size.
- Click Export PNG to open the export review.
- Choose whether to mirror for transfer, trim transparent pixels, or add transparent padding. Enable mirroring only when your printing workflow needs it.
- Use Go Back & Fix to address an issue, or confirm Export PNG to download. You can upload the result into Gang Sheet Builder.
Troubleshooting
- Controls or export are disabled
- Open a supported image first and wait for it to finish loading.
- Artwork looks blurry after resizing
- Try a higher-resolution source or a smaller print size. Increasing DPI alone does not restore detail.
- The image is mirrored unexpectedly
- Review Mirror for transfer before export, and check that your printing software is not also mirroring the same job.
Choose a useful editing order
For a logo on a plain background, a practical order is: open the image, remove the background, clean edges, trim unwanted space, set print dimensions, add effects or text, review Print Check, and export. Inspect the image after each change so you can identify which operation needs adjustment.
Use Undo and Redo for recent edits. Reset image returns to the originally opened image and removes added text. Clear image empties the workspace so you can start another image. Download work you want to keep before starting over.
Preview an edit before applying it
Controls such as Clean edges, Transparency cleanup, Sharpen, and Outline artwork offer previews. Change one setting at a time, compare Original with Result, and click the tool’s Apply button when satisfied. Cancel Preview discards the preview; Reset restores that tool’s settings.
A preview is not a committed edit. Apply the result before exporting or moving on. Closing a preview tool or its parent group cancels that preview.
Where an Alpha Mask is available, white means opaque, black means transparent, and gray means partly transparent. A Selection mask helps inspect the region a color operation selects. Use these views to catch unwanted changes around small lettering or soft edges.
Background removal: getting cleaner edges
- Start with a low tolerance on a plain background. Increase it gradually if patches remain.
- Use Connected to edges to remove the surrounding background while protecting enclosed areas of the same color. Use All matching areas only when you also want those interior areas removed.
- Compare the result on both white and dark preview backgrounds. A pale fringe that is hard to see on white can become obvious on dark.
- Adjust edge softness carefully. Too much softness can weaken small details; too little can make edges look jagged.
- For a particular color, open Remove color and use its Eyedropper to click a visible pixel. Review its selection mask before applying.
Clean artwork controls
- Transparency cleanup
- Use Remove opacity below, Alpha threshold, and Edge hardness carefully to remove faint unwanted pixels. Strong settings can also remove intentional gradients, shadows, or soft edges. Enable Remove isolated pixels when appropriate and inspect tiny design elements.
- Clean edges
- Smooth edges, Remove speckles, and Close small holes address different problems. Start with small changes. Remove fringe can target a white, black, automatic, or custom fringe color. Check that dots, fine lines, and small text survive.
- Sharpen
- Amount controls the strength of sharpening, Radius controls the scale of detail affected, and Threshold limits which differences are sharpened. Compare at 100% zoom. If bright or dark outlines appear around edges, reduce the settings.
Crop, padding, and outlines
Trim to Artwork removes transparent outer space while retaining your chosen padding. Exact pixel crop uses an X/Y starting point and a width/height. Crop & straighten provides aspect-ratio choices, pixel or inch units, and an angle adjustment. Cropping can remove artwork outside the selected region, so preview before applying.
Canvas & padding adds transparent space around the image. Keep Link all sides enabled for even padding or turn it off to set each side separately. Inches use the selected document DPI.
In Effects → Outline artwork, choose the color, width, position, corner style, and opacity. An outside outline needs room beyond the artwork edge; add transparent padding first if it would otherwise meet the canvas boundary.
Worked example: prepare a 10-inch design
- Open your image and finish any background cleanup.
- Trim unwanted transparent margins so the dimensions represent the area you intend to size.
- Set Print width to 10 inches, keep proportions enabled, choose 300 DPI, and click Apply resize.
- The output width is now 3,000 pixels. Inspect the result at 100% zoom; a small source can still look soft even though its output contains more pixels.
- Add text or effects, review Print Check, then export. If you add padding or trim during export, review the resulting output dimensions again.
Colors and halftones in more detail
For Replace color, select a source and target color, then adjust tolerance. Preserve shading can retain tonal variation. For Reduce colors, choose between 2 and 16 colors; compare dithering on and off and keep Preserve transparency enabled when the background must remain transparent.
For a halftone, choose the print dimensions and DPI first. Dot spacing in inches depends on that DPI. Begin with a preset, then adjust dot shape, spacing, minimum/maximum size, angle, and tone controls.
- Ink color and Background: choose the dot color and transparent, white, or custom background.
- Clip dots to source alpha: constrains the dots using the image’s transparency.
- Remove tiny dots and Minimum printable dot: omit dots below your chosen pixel size. Confirm a suitable size for your printer and material with a sample.
- Original / Halftone preview: compare the artwork before committing. Click Apply Halftone before export.
Halftone preview affects the image layer; text stays editable. Do not judge print detail only from a zoomed-out preview.
Add and position text
- Expand Text & layers and click + Add text layer.
- Replace the placeholder text and choose a font, pixel size, color, and weight.
- Drag the text into place or enter X and Y positions. Use Selected layer to switch between text layers.
- To use another font, load a .ttf, .otf, .woff, or .woff2 file from your device. Available system fonts can differ between devices.
- Check that the entire text fits the canvas. Later layers appear above earlier layers. Delete text layer removes the selected layer.
PNG export combines the visible artwork and text into one image. Keep the page open while editing; a downloaded PNG is not an editable layered project.
Measure and inspect the final output
Click Measure and drag across the artwork to see horizontal and vertical distances in pixels and inches, plus the distance between the endpoints. Inches use the selected DPI. Press Escape to exit Measure.
Zoom changes the view, not the output size. The Transparency, White, and Dark preview backgrounds help inspection; choosing a preview background does not add that color to the exported artwork.
Review Print Check warnings individually. In the export dialog, mirroring reverses the output horizontally. Trimming removes transparent outer pixels; padding adds transparent space. These choices can change the final image dimensions, so read the export summary before confirming.
